Sunday Set List

We had a great service this week. We fought through some technical difficulties with our in ear monitors and survived. It happens. We got some really good reviews on "Where We Belong" again! This is only the second time we have done the song in service and it seems to be becoming a favorite of many. A shout out goes to Kyle Campos for the great backing of keys and strings. Check out Kyle's website at http://www.ourrisingsound.com/. Kyle is a great man of God using his talents to help others. Shoot him a message and let him know that we appreciate his work and ministry.

Sunday Set List

We had an exciting time in service this past week. There was lots of audience participation in the singing this week, which is really cool and is a big deal to the band. Angela did a great job on "Lead Me to The Cross." I love that song! We start working on some Christmas music this week so pray for us!

Sunday Set List

We had a great service all around yesterday. The band is really gelling on most of the songs now. We are starting to get in a groove on our song rotation. We have five set lists that we rotate. We are trying to work in new stuff but it's hard to make time for practice with everyone going full blast at full time jobs. We somehow make it work with limited practice and I'm really thankful for our group.

Sunday Set List

I am so behind this week. I can't get caught up. Oh well.

This past Sunday was good for everyone but our drummer Mikey. He got food poisoning Saturday night and was in no shape to play. We changed a few things around and pulled it off. The musical highlight of the set was our keyboard player, Spence, playing the congas on "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble." Spence is multi-talented, he can do those things. It sounded pretty good and we got some good compliments. All the glory goes to God for the talents he has given us. Thank you Lord.

Sunday Set List

Yesterday took me back to the old days! Jeff was out so I got to handle all the guitar duties! Fun, but very basic...LOL! It's like I told the congregation..."All I do is play chords, I don't do all that fancy stuff." We basically flip flopped some songs to find stuff that sounds decent with one guitar. When I prayed over our offering time, I prayed that God would make the band a reflection of himself. This is truly what we as a band want. It's not at all about us. You know? We are musicians that love to make music and love to rock out, but what does it mean without God? Nothing. Some lyrics that I kept replaying over and over in my head all day yesterday were "That He who lives to be my king, once died to be my savior." Think about it.

Pastor Tom mentioned a few of our songs in the message which was really cool! He also challenged us in our dedication to local missions of the church.

This week was tough for me. I've been sick all weekend and I'm still not feeling well. I'm trying to get going and back in a groove.

The music was great but my vocals were struggling. I guess you have those days and you can't avoid sickness. Oh well.

We tried a couple of new things. One was an original loop on "Mighty to Save" that I created! I'm only bragging because it's a big deal to me. Loops are tough and mine are very simple so far but I'm learning. I will post a link to it soon. We tried a new song by Hillsong called "Where We Belong." I think this was the highlight of the set. The song is very simple yet powerful. Very worshipful lyrics.

Sunday Set List

Wow! Another Sunday in the books!

If you are reading this and wondering why in the world I would take the time to jot down my thoughts about a church service, you need to keep reading.

I work with some really cool folks at Heatherwood Baptist. They make my job easy. I say job but it's not really. It's all about worshipping our creator!

Anyway, all that to say that we as a band had some challenges this week. This may get too technical for some and I apologize. No one is reading anyway, right? Ok, we used click tracks on every song this week! For those of you who don't know what a click track is, it's a metronome sound keeping time on a certain tempo that only can be heard in the bands in ear monitors. This is a big hurdle for us as a band. And if you don't think it's tough then think again. Keeping perfect timing is hard! Especially for someone like me who can barely play guitar and sing at the same time.

Also, this week was our first attempt at using a backing track. Now I know what you are thinking. backing track equals Milli Vanilli/Ashlee Simpson kind of thing. No way! We used a track on "Lead Me To The Cross" that consisted of a little bit of synth sounds and a drum loop. Now you ask "why" right? Ok, I will tell you. Loops and backing tracks are commonly used for making up for sounds that your band cannot produce live. For instance we don't have two keyboards, so our keyboard player can concentrate on playing piano sounds and the tracks will take care of the synth sounds. Wow, I'm rambling! You are smart, you get the picture.

All in all we had a great service. The message made me really think.....deeply.....dangerous I know. Pastor Tom announced the fact that we are facing some tough financial times ahead. God still performs miracles! And we as a church believe that! He will provide!

- This is one of my favorite set lists because it is vocally challenging. Trust me I need all the vocal work I can get, but, I'm getting better and more comfortable. Thanks to Loren for helping us out on the vocals on "More Love More Power." We saw some new faces yesterday and that made us really excited!

-Lots of cool stuff going on at HBC! Team Colin, http://www.team-colin.org/ and Upward Basketball, http://www.upward.org/ were a couple of cool things mentioned in the service yesterday. Please check them out.

Sunday Set List

This is not an original idea. Many worship leaders do this to document their weekly service. So no reason why I shouldn't. I would also like to start comments about our service. Likes and dislikes. Is anyone reading this anyway?

This Sunday was pretty unique. We do a "simulcast" service with our traditional service. We do our music and they do theirs. Then the sermon is fed to us over a camera, some wires and a projector, somehow. It's pretty neat actually. Anyway, we did one song and then cut to Baptism via live feed. Our other songs went pretty well with a few hiccups on my part with an intro and an ending. Our time of relection was "You're Everything." Overall, it was a nice easy setlist. The setlist was as follows.

1. Open the Eyes of My Heart - original arrangement

2. Enough - Chris Tomlin

3. Everything Glorious - David Crowder Band

4. My Savior My God - Aaron Shust

5. You're Everything - David Crowder Band

So as you can tell we thought we were David Crowder Band this week. But hey, I'll take that any day! Later.

New boat, good fishing...

Well, I say it's a new boat. It's new to me. Wednesday night I purchased a used two seat bass tracker pond boat. I got to try it out last night at my parents house. The fish were biting and the little thing performed pretty well. It's a bit cramped on space but does what it needs to do and that's to get you to the fish. Hopefully Nathan and Garrett can learn how to pond fish out of it and have a good time. Talk to you later.

Things not seen...

This past Saturday Nathan and I were headed down to my parents house in Moreland to just hang out, fish etc. On the way down I decided to take a back road. Well, low and behold I got stuck behind a roll back truck hauling a rather large shed/storage building. Nathan thought it was cool and we could barely see around the thing. Well, I thought it was less than cool because it was keeping me from getting my line in the water as quick as possible. We must have been doing 15 mph all the way down Bethlehem Church road. This was killing me! We came to the point where the road goes up under I85 in a slight turn. I decided against trying to pass being the good driver I am and not pass in a turn. Keep in mind I'm right on this guys tail and can't see around. Well, he stops dead in the road when we get to the bridge. I sit there and think, ok I'm going around him. This is all in the span of about 30 seconds but it feels like forever to me because I'm in such a rush. I'm thinking is this guy crazy. The shed he is pulling is big but can he not see that he has plenty of room to make it under the bridge!? I'm so ready to go I start to pull around him as he starts to move forward. Then I see a construction worker holding a big orange SLOW sign! Which seconds before was a big red STOP sign! I feel like a dummy. Here I am everything short of cussing the guy in the roll back out but he's doing exactly what the sign says. Well, you know me, this got me thinking. Which is very dangerous! I think I am like this sometimes in my walk with Christ. I get so involved in what I want that I can't see that others around me are following what God is telling them to do. I think sometimes I should just back off a bit and open my eyes up to the whole situation whatever it may be. Things not seen.

What a Night!

The Hillsong United concert last night was one of the best I've ever been to. Imagine 20,000 people all singing and praising God at the same time! That's what I got to witness last night. It was a true experience that I won't ever forget. The one thing that really stuck out to me was how humble the band was. It didn't once seem like they were there to put on a show. All of their efforts were for the glory of God. It was also a great time of fellowship with my wife Kacie and guitar playing virtuoso Jeffro Rogers. So I face the rest of this week with a refreshed mind and heart. Talk to you later.

Large Mouth

It has been so long since I caught a nice large mouth bass. I just got done reeling in about a three pounder right before the rain set in. I can now sleep well tonight knowing I still got it. I love fishing!

Verse For Last Blog

Just to give some reference to my last post. Here is the verse.

1 John 4:4 (New International Version)
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

What's in you?

Tonight I have been thinking about the verse that says (paraphrasing) "Greater is he that is in me than is in the world." To try and take these thoughts all in is pretty hard for me. How can something be in me that is greater than anything in the world? Then my faith kicks in and sets me straight. Its easy. Call me narrowminded or simple but I believe this one hundred percent. God gave me something more than anything this world could ever offer. He allows me to carry a part of Him around with me. Plus he gives me ways to share little pieces of Him with others. It might be music or this blog that shows others him in me. I will never know. He is in me and He is greater.

Golf

Its way past Nathan's bedtime and he is currently showing us a new form of golf. At the moment he is hitting a real golf ball with a toy golf club(pretty real looking) around the living room as hard as he can! Garrett is going to say mama or dada soon!

Good night,
