Yesterday took me back to the old days! Jeff was out so I got to handle all the guitar duties! Fun, but very basic...LOL! It's like I told the congregation..."All I do is play chords, I don't do all that fancy stuff." We basically flip flopped some songs to find stuff that sounds decent with one guitar. When I prayed over our offering time, I prayed that God would make the band a reflection of himself. This is truly what we as a band want. It's not at all about us. You know? We are musicians that love to make music and love to rock out, but what does it mean without God? Nothing. Some lyrics that I kept replaying over and over in my head all day yesterday were "That He who lives to be my king, once died to be my savior." Think about it.
Pastor Tom mentioned a few of our songs in the message which was really cool! He also challenged us in our dedication to local missions of the church.

Sunday Set List
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WctTTVASzYM
This week was tough for me. I've been sick all weekend and I'm still not feeling well. I'm trying to get going and back in a groove.
The music was great but my vocals were struggling. I guess you have those days and you can't avoid sickness. Oh well.
We tried a couple of new things. One was an original loop on "Mighty to Save" that I created! I'm only bragging because it's a big deal to me. Loops are tough and mine are very simple so far but I'm learning. I will post a link to it soon. We tried a new song by Hillsong called "Where We Belong." I think this was the highlight of the set. The song is very simple yet powerful. Very worshipful lyrics.
Mighty to Save - Hillsong United
Where We Belong - Hillsong (Loop by Kyle Campos www.ourrisingsound.com)
My Desire - Jeremy Camp
Sweep Me Away - Charlie Hall
Amazing Love\You Are My King - original arrangement
Thanks for reading,
Phillip

Sunday Set List
Wow! Another Sunday in the books!
If you are reading this and wondering why in the world I would take the time to jot down my thoughts about a church service, you need to keep reading.
I work with some really cool folks at Heatherwood Baptist. They make my job easy. I say job but it's not really. It's all about worshipping our creator!
Anyway, all that to say that we as a band had some challenges this week. This may get too technical for some and I apologize. No one is reading anyway, right? Ok, we used click tracks on every song this week! For those of you who don't know what a click track is, it's a metronome sound keeping time on a certain tempo that only can be heard in the bands in ear monitors. This is a big hurdle for us as a band. And if you don't think it's tough then think again. Keeping perfect timing is hard! Especially for someone like me who can barely play guitar and sing at the same time.
Also, this week was our first attempt at using a backing track. Now I know what you are thinking. backing track equals Milli Vanilli/Ashlee Simpson kind of thing. No way! We used a track on "Lead Me To The Cross" that consisted of a little bit of synth sounds and a drum loop. Now you ask "why" right? Ok, I will tell you. Loops and backing tracks are commonly used for making up for sounds that your band cannot produce live. For instance we don't have two keyboards, so our keyboard player can concentrate on playing piano sounds and the tracks will take care of the synth sounds. Wow, I'm rambling! You are smart, you get the picture.
All in all we had a great service. The message made me really think.....deeply.....dangerous I know. Pastor Tom announced the fact that we are facing some tough financial times ahead. God still performs miracles! And we as a church believe that! He will provide!
Blessed Be Your Name - Matt Redman
Doxology - David Crowder Band
Lead Me To The Cross - Hillsong United ( Backing track by Kyle Campos - www.ourrisingsound.com )
Here I Am To Worship - Chris Tomlin
How Great is Our God - Chris Tomlin
God Bless,
Phillip

Sunday Set List

Beautiful One - Matt Redman
Famous One - Chris Tomlin
More Love More Power - original arrangement
Indescribable - Chris Tomlin
Nothing but the Blood - original arrangement
- This is one of my favorite set lists because it is vocally challenging. Trust me I need all the vocal work I can get, but, I'm getting better and more comfortable. Thanks to Loren for helping us out on the vocals on "More Love More Power." We saw some new faces yesterday and that made us really excited!
-Lots of cool stuff going on at HBC! Team Colin, http://www.team-colin.org/ and Upward Basketball, http://www.upward.org/ were a couple of cool things mentioned in the service yesterday. Please check them out.
